How to make an untrimmed manicure at home: step-by-step instructions

If you want to give yourself an untrimmed manicure but don't know where to start, you've come to the right place. In our article, we will tell you what is an uncut manicure and how to perform it correctly at home.
What is an uncut manicure?
Untrimmed manicure (European) is a delicate procedure of hand care, in which the cuticle is not cut, but gently softened by special means and gently pushed back. No scissors or cutters are used in the process, which minimises the risk of micro-damage, inflammation and burrs. This method is also known as European manicure and is ideal for those with sensitive skin and thin cuticles.
Types of uncut manicure
European manicure at home, as well as in the salon, can be done in different ways - it all depends on personal preferences and the chosen technique.How to make an uncut manicure at home: step-by-step instructions
- Dry. For this variant of manicure you will need a remuver (cuticle remover) and an orange stick or pusher. Remover should be applied to the skin around the nail plate, and then gently push back the cuticle. It is important to note that with this method, the skin does not require prior steaming. However, the disadvantage of this technique is the risk of an allergic reaction. Despite this, the method is excellent for regular home nail care - it is fast, convenient and does not require special skills.
- Wet (wet). In this variant of manicure, the procedure is a little more complicated: after applying the remuver, it is necessary to make a warm bath to steam the skin. Only then you can carefully remove the cuticle. This method is especially recommended for those who have dry skin, as well as in cases where the hands are in a neglected state.
- Hot. In this variant of manicure remuver is not used - instead, a bath with nourishing lotion or heated oil is used. This method effectively softens rough skin, making it softer and better groomed.

Advantages of the uncut manicure
- Safety (no risk of cuts);
- Gentle care for sensitive skin;
- Suitable for regular home use;
- Simplicity and minimum tools.
What you need for a European manicure at home
To perform an uncut manicure at home you will need the following tools and means:
- Cuticle remover. Cuticle removers can be alkaline, acid, mineral or oil based. Acid and alkaline removers act like chemical peels and are usually used in a salon. At home, these products require caution. Mineral and oil-based removers gently soften cuticles, making them easier to remove, and are safe to use at home.
- Orange Stick or Pusher. A disposable, moisture-resistant orange stick with a bevelled end is a simple and affordable tool for cuticle care. It is easy to use and does not require sterilisation. In contrast, a pusher is a reusable tool, usually made of metal or plastic. It has two working surfaces: a flat one for pushing back cuticles and a sharp one for removing keratinised skin. After each use, the pusher should be thoroughly disinfected.
- Nail file. To shape and polish your nails, you can use a classic file or a buff. It is also recommended to use a special file for uncut manicure - it is designed for delicate grinding of side rollers and careful removal of growing cuticle. Such a file should be used only on dry skin and nail plate to avoid damage.
- Nourishing and moisturising products for hands and nails. If the cuticle is dry, it is recommended to treat it with a special cuticle oil - it softens, moisturises and helps to restore it.
- Hand wipes.
These products and tools are available individually or as a set.
How to make a manicure at home without trimming step-by-step

1. Nail preparation. It is necessary to remove the old nail polish, give the nails the desired shape and length. If you do not like the chosen shape, it can be corrected later.
2. Skin steaming. This step is necessary if you have chosen a hot variant of trimming manicure. Immerse your fingers in a warm bath with nourishing lotion or heated oil - this will help to effectively soften the skin and prepare the cuticle for processing.
3. Application of remuver. Gently apply the remuver - it will soften the cuticle. It is most convenient to spread the product with an orange stick. Leave the remuver for the time specified in the instructions on the package. Do not exceed the recommended exposure time.
4. Cuticle treatment. After using the remuver, rinse your hands thoroughly under warm water to remove any residue. Apply a nourishing oil specially designed for cuticle care to the cuticle area.
Using an orange stick or poucher, gently push back the cuticle, starting from the centre of the nail bed and gradually moving to the sides. It is important to first gently push the cuticle back to the base of the nail and then gently remove dead skin cells.
In most cases, the cuticle is easily dissolved and no trimming is required. However, if rough patches or bumps remain, carefully remove them with clippers or manicure scissors to achieve the perfect result.
5. Applying a coloured coating. At the end of the treatment, gently buff your nails with a soft buff. You can leave them natural or coat them with your favourite shade of nail polish or gel polish.
